Welcome to my humble blog! Let's start with a little background...
My name is Greg Stotts and, as the tag on this site says, I'm a father, husband and information security nerd. I live with my family in Iowa where I currently work as a security engineer. I enjoy spending time with my kids and wife, taking photos with my digital SLR, listening to music and visiting record stores, and learning about new technologies.
Over the years I've worn a few different hats professionally. After graduating with a bachelors from the University of Iowa, I worked as a teacher for more than a decade primarily in private schools. Most of that time was spent teaching middle school mathematics and science. While I enjoyed the time spent teaching my students each day, it became increasingly difficult to make ends meet and support a growing family. With that in mind, I began taking classes in the evenings for network systems administration and landed a job working in information security for an Iowa-based company, Hy-Vee, Inc. The field was really just getting started at that time and the role meant doing a bit of everything from working with auditors in a governance capacity to to creating policy to building security infrastructure. From Hy-Vee I went on to work remotely for Allstate and then to my current employer, Smartsheet.
The intent with this site is to provide a place to sort of brain-dump and share what I've learned from various side projects. You'll find bits of terraform, python and cloud security tools scattered throughout blog posts.
